York Youth Council, 2011
We are sorry to announce that we have have had to cancel our plans to use the old chapel at 3 Little Stonegate (formerly the back of Border's) as the venue for our city centre space for young people. Converting any listed building, especially one that was previously used for a completely different purpose, presents a wide range of challenges. In the end these proved to be insurmountable, and we understand that the building will be on the market again shortly.
This is disappointing news, particularly given the excitement that was shared by so many people about bringing this fantastic space back into use. However, 3 Little Stonegate was only the most recent of a number of premises we have considered, and it won't be the last. Our goal remains the same: to make possible a city-centre space where young people can hang out, have fun, be themselves and be warm and safe. We have been delighted at the range of support that this plan has attracted so far, and we look forward to continuing to work with our existing partners, supporters and funders, as well as establishing new ones, in the coming months.
